Takydromus sp.
Long Tailed Grass Lizard
Long Tailed Grass Lizards (LTGLs) are small, diurnal, lizards that are non-aggressive and easy to care for. Though they're fairly short-lived, living around 5 years, they're highly active and fun to watch!
Being diurnal, these lizards are awake and active in the daytime.. because of this, they do require a reptile UVB/heat light, and a nice basking spot to take advantage of it.
They'll also need some under tank heating and/or a non-light producing heat lamp to keep their enclosure at a tolerable temperature in the evening.
Adult size = About 12 inches, (30.5 cm) though their tails take up the majority of this.
Our LGTLs were locally bred, (in Quebec) are very tame, and quite easy to handle.
Their easy-going and non-territorial nature means they can be housed with each other as well as similarly sized Green Anoles and House Geckos.
Temperatures:
The temperature of their basking spot should be between 85-95 °F, with the rest of the enclosure being 75-85 °F in the day, and 65-75 °F at night.
Feeding:
LTGLs are insectivores that can be fed a variety of live feeder insects, (these should be dusted with reptile calcium once a week,) or Repashy's Grub Pie.
Young lizards can be fed daily, adults every other day.
A shallow dish with fresh, clean water should be available at all times.
Enclosure Setup:
We're currently using bioactive substrate, plenty of dried mosses, live plants, leaf litter, springtails, and isopods.
These lizards appreciate an abundance of branches, bark hides & sturdy plants, (live or silk) to hide under and run along.. you'll see them happily jumping from leaf to leaf.
Though they're small, they're very active, quick, and will appreciate an enclosure that has space for running and jumping about.
