Folsomia candida & Sinella curviseta
Tropical White Springtails & Tropical Pink Springtails
These moisture-loving, clean up crew, creatures (that primarily live off mold, yeast & decaying matter,) are great feeders, & make an excellent addition to bioactive terrariums and enclosures where mold or mites are a possibility.
Both of the types we carry are easy to culture with natural lump charcoal, water, nutritional yeast, and a suitable container.
We highly recommend an airtight container, as such will prevent unwanted creatures/pests from finding their way in.
To care for a culture, open daily to refresh the air inside and check if food is needed.
Cultures can typically survive one to two days without opening, (depending on culture & container size) but longer than that can cause carbon dioxide build up and culture collapse.
To feed, sprinkle food on top on the charcoal in a culture and mist gently, if desired.
This is a good time to top up the water level, if it's low, though we usually find misting is enough.
