Bred & Raised by Curious Creatures!
Also called Brown-Lipped Snails and Lemon Snails, this terrestrial species can live 7 to 10 years in captivity.
These snails are social creatures and should be kept in pairs or groups.
Grove Snails are detritus eaters/scavengers that eat a lot of the same foods as isopods, but do need a variety of safe foods.
While they can be part of a cleanup crew, they can also produce a lot of waste, sometimes in areas that cleaners like springtails and isopods may have difficulty reaching. To prevent this, we don't keep anymore than 2 or 3 adults, (or 4 to 5 younger snails) per 10 gallons of bioactive terrarium/enclosure.
They will happily live in larger groups or with less space, but these setups may require regular cleaning and/or an upgrade if they start running out of space.
They love climbing over rocks, wood, vines, plants and will make use of all kinds of hides.
Overcrowding, heights, or falls onto hard objects can seriously damage their shells & possibly injure the snail.. though this isn't always fatal, steps should be taken to prevent further injuries.
Grove Snails will happily live with other animals, such as isopods, Crested/Mourning Geckos, Long Tailed Grass Lizards-- anyone who enjoys humidity and won't eat them.
WARNING: Though Grove Snails find foods like Grubs 'N' Fruit, (and other gecko foods) irresistible, even adult snails can easily get stuck in and drown in it.
We use cleaned, 2L, pop bottle caps for food in our Mourning Gecko terrarium, and this is the largest amount we'll leave around our sub-adult/adult snails unsupervised.
