This spiderling will eventually outgrow this enclosure..
Until they do, this clear jar makes appreciating the beautiful blues of this baby tarantula super easy.
About this enclosure:
Height = 9", Diameter = 4"
This thick glass jar is easy to clean, (dishwasher safe) and sturdy enough to be reused again and again.
On top is a heat-resistant mesh screen, (that can be cleaned with hot water) that's easily trimmed with a sharp pair of scissors.
Inside is a bit of EcoEarth, New Zealand sphagnum moss, and a small cork round with two top entrances.
Though they were newly rehoused when these photos were taken, they've already moved into the cork round!!
They've also started webbing around the cork entrances and securing the cork to the walls of the enclosure.. but there's enough space between web and lid to be able to remove the screen, tidy up, and feed, without having to destroy webbing or worry about them bolting out of the enclosure.
About this species:
Caribena versicolor is an arboreal, (tree-dwelling) New World, tarantula.
Like other New Worlds, they do have urticating hairs-- but they rarely use them and seem to prefer the "poop cannon" method of chasing predators away. Instead of kicking hairs at a predators, they spray their poop.. and their aim tends to be pretty impressive.
In general, this special is easy to care for, very docile, and gets even more beautiful as they mature, like living jewels.. with fangs.
They're also great eaters and are, in our experience, one of the easiest species to tong feed.
While we don't recommend handling any tarantula, (there are risks for both the tarantula and you when handling) this species tends to be one of the easier ones to handle.
