Dwarf White Isopods
A tiny species, (<5 mm) that's regularly used in bioactive & tropical terrariums, isopods bins, or as a pet-safe cleaner in enclosures with delicate reptiles/amphibians/invertebrates.
Trichorhina tomentosa are about 3-5mm, full grown, they aren't very fond of protein, and they don't require a high amount of calcium-- making them a great cleaner species for most enclosures!
As a cleaner species, they do a great job of removing the leftovers and waste that can attract fungus gnats, flies, and mites. (We use them in a lot of our own enclosures.)
Though they may become a snack for smaller spiders, reptiles, dart frogs, and tarantula slings, they're so small, (and spend so much time burrowing) that a lot of pets tend to ignore them.
They tolerate a range of environments and, as long as they have a damp place to retreat to when needed, they can thrive just about anywhere.
They also make a great addition to other isopod bins..
Not only do they promote healthy substrate & help prevent fungal blooms, they prevent over-crowding too!
Dwarf White Isopods breed very quickly once established.
For feeding, (or supplemental feeding, when using as a cleaner species) they greatly enjoy Repashy Morning Wood, Repashy Bug Burger, and fruit/vegetable pieces, such as carrot, sweet potato, corn cob, watermelon, squash & zucchini.
About Trichorhina tomentosa Orders:
Due to their tiny size, we generally have to scoop them out of the substrate or knock them off cork to pack them.. because of this, they may come with the odd springtail.
